When to visit Sylhet: dry-season ease or monsoon green?
Choose when to visit Sylhet: compare cooler dry months with wetter-season river scenery, understand monsoon trade-offs and check weather before day trips.

The easiest mistake on a first Sylhet trip is trying to see the whole region from one hotel in a few tightly timed days. Start with the places that interest you most, then choose a base that makes those journeys sensible.

Sylhet city, Sylhet district and Sylhet division are not the same thing. The city is a useful base for its shrines, restaurants and trips towards places such as Jaflong and Ratargul. Sreemangal and Lawachara are in Moulvibazar district in the wider division.
If tea gardens and forest walks are your priority, give Sreemangal its own place in the plan. If you are visiting relatives as well as sightseeing, count family time as part of the trip rather than something to fit around it.
Our Hotels page compares six sourced hotel listings in different parts of Sylhet city. Look at the address and the facilities you actually need rather than choosing only by a photograph or headline rating.
For larger groups or longer stays, compare holiday homes too. Confirm the total cost, occupancy, cancellation terms and travel arrangements on the booking provider’s current page. This guide does not quote room prices or promise availability.
A suggested first day is a gentle city visit and a meal, allowing time to recover from travel. For another day, choose one main countryside destination and confirm transport and current access. This is an itinerary idea, not a timed tour.
If you have longer, add a separate stay in Sreemangal for tea country and a forest outing. Avoid stacking several far-apart destinations just because they fit on the same map: travel conditions and the needs of your group matter more.
Dhaka–Sylhet options include air, rail and road, but services and schedules must be checked with current operators. Confirm arrival and return arrangements before making non-refundable plans.
For overseas visitors, check current Bangladesh entry requirements and travel advice through official sources. Keep copies of important booking details, carry safe drinking water and ask your host about local conditions before water-based excursions.
