Bangladesh Visa, NVR & Passport Guide

Travel documents are the most common question from British Sylhetis. This guide explains the options and points you to the official office for each one — fees and forms change, so always confirm there.

Which document do I need?

  • Bangladeshi passport holders: travel on a valid Bangladeshi passport (now issued as an e-passport).
  • British citizens of Bangladeshi origin: either a Bangladesh visa in your UK passport, or a No Visa Required (NVR) endorsement, which lets you visit without a separate visa each time.
  • Children born in the UK: they usually travel on a British passport and need a visa or NVR; a parent's Bangladeshi documents are normally requested as proof of origin.
  • Other British citizens: apply for a standard Bangladesh visa before travel.

About the NVR endorsement

NVR is applied for through the Bangladesh High Commission in London or the Assistant High Commissions in Birmingham and Manchester. Typical supporting papers include your passport, proof of Bangladeshi origin (for example a parent's Bangladeshi passport or birth certificate) and photos. Check the current list and fee before you apply.

Renewing passports

  • Bangladeshi e-passport: apply online, then attend the mission for biometrics.
  • UK passport: renew online on GOV.UK; allow several weeks, more before summer.
  • Check expiry dates: many airlines expect at least six months' validity left on arrival.
